Living So That {Review}
A few weeks ago, I was asked to review a series of Christian Life/Personal Growth books from inScribed and let me tell you, I couldn’t wait to get my hands (and heart) on them! One of the book was written by Wendy Blight called Living So That: Making Faith-Filled Choices in the Midst of a Messy Life.
This book is about living our lives according to the powerful “so that” verses of the Bible; for example, Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven..” Instead of making the easy choices, Wendy teaches us:
Faith-filled choices are harder to make. They occur when we react, not out of our emotions but out of a spirit-led heart and mind. And faith-filled choices have good consequences that bless not only us but everyone with whom we come in contact.
What I really enjoyed about this particular book was the sections after the chapter that included questions which were great but also the “going deeper” sections. These were both beautiful and difficult since there were no easy answers. These, at least for me, required some serious soul searching. A few times I had to put the book and my journal down and come back to it later. The book also offers real world examples of how we can live the verses we study, not just read and think “yeah, I’ll work on that” and file it away.
I enjoyed the self-study of this book, but I would like to go further with a small ladies’ group. I know other women have different life experiences and are in different stages of their lives; I bet we can provide each other a lot of perspective.
Here is the summary from inScribed:
In today’s world, it’s tough to make everyday decisions, let alone decisions that honor God. Our culture is increasingly driven by selfish desires. However, as Christians, our lives should not be self-centered and static; they should be others-centered and active, making a difference for the Kingdom of God.
Living “So That” is a fresh approach to understanding God’s Word, focusing on many of the powerful “so that” verses in Scripture, including Jesus Came So That. . .; God Spoke So That. . .; Pray So That. . .; Trials Come So That. . . . Through her approachable style, personal examples, and biblical teaching, Wendy equips readers to take what they study in the Word of God and practically live it out in order to impact the world around them. The result is a renewed appreciation for the power and applicability of Scripture.
Through practical examples and biblical truths, Wendy helps readers gain a new perspective on daily living, equipping them to apply these biblical truths to present-day decision-making.
