Manuka Honey
Growing up, we always kept honey on hand. It was usually just for baking or hot tea, especially when we had a sore throat. But now, we keep several jars of Mankua Honey on hand, along with several other products made from this wonderful honey!
Manuka Honey is widely believed to not only treat minor wounds and burns, but to:
– Help lower cholesterol
– Help reduce systemic inflammation
– Help treat diabetes
– Help reduce ear, eye and sinus infection symptoms
– Help reduce gastrointestinal problems
Hydrogen peroxide is a component of most raw honeys and is responsible for the antibiotic benefits most honeys provide. Most types of honey also have components with antibacterial qualities, but only Manuka Honey contains methylglyoxal (MG), one of the key UMF (Unique Manuka Factors) qualities. Indeed, the higher the concentration of MG, the more powerful the antibiotic effect, which is one reason honey producers have developed a scale for rating the UMF potency of Manuka Honey. Therapeutic abilities start with 5+ either UMF or Bio Active. The advantage of higher grades is that less honey can be used for the same results for everyday conditions. For extreme conditions, a 10+ UMF or higher is recommended.
In the last few years, I had started learning about honey being used for more than just sweetening my favorite treats. Originally it was used as a salve for wounds and inflammations. Today, it’s used to treat burns and help prevent infection because of it’s anti-bacterial properties! And if you’re using an all natural honey, or a type like Manuka honey, there can also be health benefits by ingesting a small amount every day.
I was given a few bottles of Pacific Resources International Manuka Honey and their Multi Flora Honey to try. The Manuka honey is rich and delicious, but thicker and slightly darker than the standard honey most of us grew up with. And the Multi Flora honey is “creamed” honey, which helps keep it easy to spread once it’s been opened. Both of these are cold-processed and retain their natural healing properties, not to mention their delicious sweetness.
This is a small sample of products made using the awesome Manuka honey I’m talking about. These are the Lemon & Honey Lozenges, the Children’s Strawberry Cough Elixir & the Propolis Oral Spray. The lozenges are a great alternative to cough drops; the combination of the lemon and honey is very soothing on your throat and the menthol helps you breathe a little easier too. The strawberry cough elixir is full of the Manuka honey healing properties, plus it helps break up the chest congestion and get your child (or you) on the road to feeling better with all natural ingredients. Finally, the Propolis Oral Spray is a great natural breath freshener and oral hygiene product.
Who doesn’t love a little candy, right? These are the Manuka Honey strawberry lollipops and the Manuka Honey nuggets. These were a favorite of the kids and adults alike! The lollipops are nice for a more healthy treat with natural fruit flavor and they are nice for any child who has a scratchy throat or suffers from dry mouth. And the honey nuggets make a nice hard candy to keep on hand, not only for enjoying the sweet honey taste but also help keep your throat from getting dry. I toss a few in my bag and enjoy them through the day when I need a small energy boost.
So whether you’re looking to expand your taste buds with a new type of honey or you’re looking for a more natural line of products, I’d definitely suggest learning about the Manuka Honey products from Pacific Resources International. And you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter for the latest news and information.

I bought Manuka honey for the first time last year about this time. Just at that time I had a horrible case of strep throat and my husband had just had a tooth pulled. We were a pair. Both of us were on anti-biotics. That is when we discovered that my husband was allergic to the medication and he lost all sense of taste. I had no appetite for anything. This went on for about three to four weeks. We were a pair. I believe the manuka honey helped us thru this time. Now I keep some on hand. It is not cheap but hopefully worth the extra moneies. I just realized that we are getting down to the bottom of the jar–tiome to go purchase a new one.
