Nourished {Book Review}
When you think of the word nourish, I'd say most people think about the act of eating, and satisfying ourselves with food, right? And while that's true, there are also other parts of ourselves, especially as women, that need to be cared for just as much! In the book, Nourished, A Search for Health, Happiness and a Full Night's Sleep by Becky Johnson & Rachel Randolph, this mother/daughter duo help us take care of our self, our marriage, our family and more.
Order-loving, thirty-something Rachel, and her laid-back, messy mother, Becky, are opposites in many ways. But they both believe that women long for a life that nourishes them inside and out. In this book, the mother-daughter duo will help you make that dream a reality by tackling the “Top 10 Stressors” that mess with a woman’s mind, such as:
•Cluttered Surroundings
•Exhaustion of parenting
•Time-starved marriages
•Feeling like a spiritual slacker
•Crowded Schedules
•Negative Body Image
Following a series of trial-and-error experiments, Becky and Rachel share laugh-out-loud stories, fascinating research, and practical tips to design and a nourished life that fits your personality. By learning how to embrace “nourishing compromises,” you’ll never put happiness on hold again. If you are feeling drained, discontent, or discouraged, join a couple of understanding, entertaining companions on the journey from overwhelmed to nourished.
I think most of us fit “with” either Rachel (the daughter) or her mom, Becky, in either age, season of life, or personality. I found myself time and again nodding or agreeing with an example or funny story they used to get a point across.
Each chapter covers a topic that typically causes stress for a woman, whether that's how to clean the house, putting your husband first, or even with your self image! Both Becky and Rachel write about the topic from their own perspective, and give advice/how-to suggestions that worked for them.
I found this book to be filled with humorous but true to life stories, suggestions and situations. I honestly felt like I was sitting in the living room, enjoying tea and talking with a few of my closest friends while we helped each other with our struggles. Not everyone deals with every one of these areas, and some of us deal with them all! And because of that, this is a good book to keep on the shelf and re-read when you are needing to be nourished again.
This book can be purchased at your local Family Christian Bookstore.
