Old Fashioned {DVD Review}
I love a good love story. But in today’s world, it’s hard to find a love story that’s not filled with racy scenes or full of bad language. So I was pleasantly surprised to catch Old Fashioned, a movie by Pure Flix, because it offered comedy, faith, drama and best of all, love.
A romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his reckless carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman with a restless soul, drifts into the area and rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his strong faith and noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an “old-fashioned” and God-honoring courtship in contemporary America.
Talk about opposites attract! Here is a reformed party boy that now runs an antique store and in breezes in a “free spirit” who rents an apartment over his shop. They each come with their own issues and baggage. He uses his faith and Jesus almost as a wall that no one can overcome to find a relationship with him. And she doesn’t want to settle down but can’t help be curious about this odd man who’s now her landlord.
Both of the main characters come with guilt about their past which they must find a way to share and get over, with or without the other person. And while it’s easy to dislike the woman at first, I can see many of my friends or even characteristics of my daughters in her. And he’s far from perfect, and I love his aunt who basically tells him to get over himself and let someone in for a change.
I wasn’t surprised, being a Pure Flix film, that it wasn’t full of sex or language, but was full of faith. Not in your face preaching a sermon, but it was there. And I loved it even more for it.
Be sure to pick up a copy of Old Fashioned today and share it with your friends and family. Whether they are already married or will be soon, this is a great film to be shared. You can purchase it at the Pure Flix online store and check out the latest information on Facebook and Twitter!
