Psalm 73:6 “My flesh and my heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (NIV)
One of the great benefits of growing old in Christ is to see and experience the sweet example of God’s people as they advance in years, and face the uncertainty of older bodies and an erosion of capacity to do what could be done earlier in life. What God removes from us as our physical strength ebbs He compensates for with our faith that was built up over a lifetime by God’s deliverance of us time after time.
It is this confidence in God even in the latter days that provide God’s strength and confidence that He will see us through whatever we may face in the days ahead. My Dad’s favorite verse in the Bible points us to this great truth that God strengthens us in every circumstance of life in Psalm 37:25: “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”
Often the greatest statement of faith we can make in this life is to finish strong and remain faithful to the end as we face the last enemy that will be destroyed which is death (1 Corinthians 15:26). Our spirit will shine bright even as our bodies age if we remain focused as Paul was in fighting the good fight, finishing the race, and keeping the faith since our legacy of faith is what we leave behind to all the generations that will come (2 Timothy 4:7). Aspah could say even as the world was passing away around him and his flesh and heart were failing that his real strength was in the strength of the Lord and the blessed assurance of a portion that cannot be taken away from him!
God call us to finish strong and be faithful unto death so that we might obtain the crown of life (Revelation 2:10). Never ever forget that you are at your greatest strength in the Lord exactly at the point that you need His strength the most! Exercise your faith and finish strong in the Lord for you will make an eternal difference to all you touch!
FATHER KEEP ME FOCUSED ON JESUS SO THAT I WILL NOT GROW WEARY AND LOSE HEART, BUT FINISH STRONG IN THE RACE JUST AS THE APOSTLE PAUL DID!
