Resolution (The Talan Revolt, #2) {Review}

I was given the opportunity to read and review Resolution (The Talan Revolt, #2) by John Blackport. It's not the kind of book I would normally pick for myself as it falls into the “fantasy adventure” category, but I enjoyed it as part of this series. Here is the description of this book:

Rick Rivoire used to love the army.

But now he and three other Rainguns are assigned to guard a Duke’s mining camp. The Baron in charge is cruel to the workers. Rick’s long dreamed of rebellion. Perhaps now is the time!

Then the camp is attacked by Lucan, an ambitious necromancer eager to turn the slaves into undead minions. Rick’s duty commands him to delay the chaos of rebellion, until he sees Lucan crushed.

Rick must aid other forces opposing Lucan: kind but brutish ogres, led by humans in war paint with tomahawks. How can he gain their trust?

In a town under siege, he meets the endearing Anya. Is she as innocent as she appears? Or is she a dangerous pawn?

So we get to spend time with our hero, Rick, in this next part of his journey. Slavery is spreading through the nation, and the people are no longer allowed to worship the God(s) or Goddess(es) of their choice. We move with our hero as he has to start making decisions whether loyalty to the point of death is his path or if sometimes that “bond” has to be broken when those he serves are no longer doing the right thing.

Once again, the author tosses us right into the thick of things. And by being so descriptive, it seems we are right there when these events happen in the book.

As with the other books in the Talan Revolt Series, there are graphic battle scenes as well as a few physical relationships between various characters. I wouldn't suggest this book for younger readers for that reason, but otherwise I enjoyed the 2nd installment of the series.
