Let me share with you a little about Compass Classroom’s video series: Modern Parables. They have a set of Bible study videos on Jesus’ parables that you will love watching over and over again. I was provided a set of these through the 2:1 Conference that I attended in April. These videos have been the topic of many discussions at our dinner table in the last month!
I appreciate that each topic can be studied by an individual or as a group/congregation and has a wonderful study guide to complement it. I really enjoyed just watching the videos. The current day examples drove the message home. They recommend this series for middle school through adults, but younger children will also enjoy watching them.
I would recommend the Modern Parables video series for your family Bible study or homeschool co-op.
The following parables are included:
~ Hidden Treasure is a light comedy about an unsuccessful real estate agent who finds oil in a field and must convince his wife they should sell all they own to buy it.
~ Samaritan is a drama about a teenage boy who watches his father and youth leader pass by a hurt man, only to see the man helped by someone he didn’t expect to help him.
~ The Shrewd Manager is an ironic comedy about a dishonest farm manager who is fired and so must think quickly to figure out a way into his next job.
~ The Widow & Judge is a moving drama about a poor widow who struggles against a corrupt judge in her pursuit of justice.
~ The Sower is a documentary about an 80-year-old wheat farmer who grows his crop from planting to harvest.
~ Prodigal Sons is a drama about two sons trying to manipulate their father to achieve their own selfish ends. (Rating: PG – parental guidance suggested)
Each video runs 12-20 minutes and then has an application section that is about 12 minutes.
