Roasted Chick Peas

Roasted Chick Peas

Roasted Chick Peas

Chick peas are a super food. They are great in salads, soups, dips and of course my favorite way..roasted.

Roasted chick peas are always a nice thing to snack on when you need a little crunch without adding carbs. Just plain salt without other flavors are perfect.

Roasted Chick Peas

I usually make them with a little hot sauce for my crew. My personal preference is with lemon pepper seasoning in the place of the hot sauce. There is no limit to how to season these little jewels.

Mix it up..create you own special flavored chick pea snack.

Ingredients:
1 can Chick Peas
1 Tablespoon oil ( I like to use olive or grape seed)
3 Tablespoons Bottled Hot Sauce (Any style works, I like Frank's)
1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder (if using Garlic salt, do not add more with pepper)
Salt to Taste

Directions:
Rinse and drain chick peas – pat dry or shake well to remove water
In a large bowl or baggie, mix the oil, hot sauce and Garlic
Toss Chick Peas in the liquid mixture to coat all peas
Spread peas out on baking sheet and place in oven set at 400 degrees (no need to preheat)
Sprinkle salt over peas
Bake for 45 minutes shaking pan every 15 minutes to turn peas

These also make great jar gifts. Whip up a batch and attach a label with best or get well wishes. They will keep for weeks in a sealed jar..notice I said keep instead of last? Good luck on them lasting a few weeks! Addictive little buggers.

I think that chick peas are just as great as authentic hush puppies. All great down south cooking.
