Solid Cordz HDMI Cables {Review}
Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
I am going to be really honest up front about this product review. I know NOTHING about electronics, cables or why things work. I usually go to the store and tell the dude at the desk my problem and they fix me up.
That said, I recently was in a position to help my mom try to set up her television to her DVR and speakers. Oh My! After several trips to the store I finally was given the correct cables. What I learned was that by using the HDMI cable I didn’t need all the others!
So, what is the HDMI cable? The HDMI, or High Definition Multimedia Interface cable is one that carries both the audio (sound) and video (picture) in one cable. Pretty neat huh? I thought it was because I am one of those that looks behind the entertainment cabinet and shudders at all the connections. And yes, I will admit that for years my LCD did flash when we had a power outage until one of my children could reset the time.
Ok so back to the product at hand…
These cables are considered premium rated because:
- Gold-plated HDMI® connectors provide optimal signal transfer
- Double-shielded HDMI® compliant cable protects against EMI/RFI
- Supports Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master AudioTM standards
- Backward compatible to all previous versions
- HDCP & RoHS compliant
And the following information was provided by the sponsor and explains the major enhancements introduced in the HDMI 1.4 specification:
• HDMI® Ethernet Channel – The HDMI 1.4 specification adds a data channel to the HDMI® connection, enabling high-speed, bi-directional communication. Connected devices that include this feature can send and receive data via 100 Mb/sec Ethernet, making them instantly ready for any IP-based application.
• Audio Return Channel – The new specification adds an audio channel that will reduce the number of cables required to deliver audio “upstream” from a TV to an A/V receiver for processing and playback. In cases where a TV features an internal content source, such as a built-in tuner or DVD player, the Audio Return Channel allows the TV to send audio data upstream to the A/V receiver via the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for an extra cable.
• 3D Support – The 1.4 version of the specification defines common 3D formats and resolutions for HDMI-enabled devices, enabling 3D gaming and other 3D video applications.
• 4K Resolution Support – The new specification enables HDMI devices to support extremely high HD resolutions, effectively four times the resolution of a 1080p device. Support for 4K allows the HDMI interface to transmit digital content at the same resolution as the state-of-the-art Digital Cinema systems used in many movie theaters.
To summarize; these cables are 6 feet long and replace the red, white and yellow cables in the back of the entertainment system. They work to provide smooth interface between any audio/video source, such as set-top boxes, Blue-ray Disc players, DVD players, video game consoles, AV receivers and an audio and/or video monitor, such as digital television or plasma monitor, over a single cable.
Just a note here..these cables are for newer products. If you are still using the mammoth large screen television unit like the one in my basement; you will still need the multi-colored cables. However, if you have a device that accepts HDMI cables..go for it! There is no comparing the quality of video and audio between the two types of cables.
