Starting the Day
Psalm 67:1-2 “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.” (NIV)
The most wonderful thought that should hit your mind as you awake in the morning is that God blesses me overwhelmingly in Jesus Christ. Our first thought is the most important thought of the day because it sets the pattern and expectation for our day in this world. If we start with negativity, the day will quickly get away from us as we careen from one disappointment to the next crisis to the next mess. Negativity didn’t do anything for anyone, and it certainly will do nothing for you, so it is imperative that we focus our minds from the very first part of our day on those things that are positive and constructive. I believe this was David’s practice, which became his habit, to start the morning hour in praise to God! When we put our mind’s focus on God to start our day, the possibilities are limitless and every single one leads us to positive outcomes.
One great thought to start our day with is found in our devotional text, which emphasizes the goodness and grace and provision that God generously gives us each and every day. We must start each day seeking the face of God, since we know God’s face will shine upon us. God has invested so much in each one of us; do you recognize this? It is through God’s unfathomable grace, blessing, and providential power in our lives that his ways and salvation become known as we broadcast Jesus Christ to the nations. God wants you to be successful in this life because he wants to fulfill his purposes for you in this world.
When we start the morning thinking that God knows me, God loves me, God will work through me, and God will make this a blessed day for me; not much can go wrong that we cannot overcome with God’s help. Use your blessing to share Christ to the world, and your blessing will be multiplied many times over. We serve a great God and we can continue to bathe in the light of his face IF we will keep our eyes fixed on him.
TODAY, FATHER, I WILL CHOOSE TO START MY DAY THINKING ON YOU AND THE GRACE AND BLESSING YOU BRING INTO MY LIFE AS I SHARE JESUS CHRIST WITH A LOST WORLD. AMEN!
