Team Us: Marriage Together {Book Review}
When couples get married, I think we all have it all planned out. From where to live, to how many kids to have, and everything else that goes with a marriage, it can quickly become overwhelming and confusing. With Team Us: Marriage Together, the author Ashleigh Slater helps teach couples how to keep the problem on the other side, and not in between the two of you!
I personally enjoyed how this book is written because it’s not only Ashleigh’s point of view, but her husband, Ted, also weighs in! It’s like sitting in their living room, getting to know the two of them, telling stories about good and bad times.
Each chapter also includes a list of questions or exercises, meant to be completed together as a couple, to get you to think and talk!
There are chapters talking about setting up house together, going from yours/mine to ours, parenting differences, and more. While it may not cover everything that could come up, it certainly covers a few of the bigger issues that tend to come up over and over again for most couples.
What are you agreeing to when you say “I do”?
When a couple promises “I do,” they agree to more than just a shared last name, a joint bank account, and no more dateless nights. This husband and wife duo forms a new team. “Life together” becomes their mantra. Nothing can come between them. At least, that’s the plan.
But then real life sets in. With it come disappointments and frustrations. If the couple isn’t intentional in their day-to-day interactions, that once enthusiastic “we” can slowly revert to “you” and “me.” Before long, the couple’s left wondering what happened to their team spirit.
Team Us: Marriage Together offers couples practical ways to cultivate and strengthen unity in their marriages. Author Ashleigh Slater shares from her own marriage as she presents couples with realistic ideas on how to foster cooperation, deepen commitment, and exercise grace on a daily basis.
This book is a great reminder that it’s not all rainbows and sunshine, but neither is it always hard and challenging! With commitment, love, grace and understanding, everything can be worked out and Team Us comes out better than before.
