Tin Goose Diner {Review}
During a recent trip to Port Clinton and Sandusky, Ohio, we had the pleasure of stopping at the Liberty Aviation Museum for a tour. While we were there, we decided to stop for lunch at the Tin Goose Diner, which is a fully restored diner from the 1950's. It was a blast to visit and enjoy an awesome view of the local airport!
Thank you for visiting the Tin Goose Diner. This diner is authentic, built by the Jerry O'Mahony Diner Company of Elizabeth, New Jersey, in the 1950’s. It was originally operated as the Sunrise Diner in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.
We became a permanent part of the Liberty Aviation Museum in 2012.
We encourage you to view, and experience artifacts, vehicles, and aircraft from the Golden Age of Aviation, and beyond.
All proceeds from this diner help fund the operation of the Liberty Aviation Museum.
So when they say fully restored, they aren't kidding! From the table and chairs, to the floors and even the menu choices, this is a throwback for sure. They are open seven days a week, serving breakfast all day, and then lunch & dinner starting at 11 am.
The music was wonderful to listen to as we watched several planes fly in and out of the Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport. There are windows overlooking the hangars and airfield, so no matter where you sit (even outside), you will have a terrific view.
The menu is definitely “diner” fare, with breakfast consisting of choices like eggs, biscuits, bacon, pancakes and more. They have various dishes named after airplanes and/or nicknames, and most come with a variety of options for fixings or sides. Lunch and dinner offer items like hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, pot roast, chili and more.
And you can't forget about the incredible french fries or their milkshakes! The shakes are large enough to share and they are hand dipped which just seem to make them taste better.
Our group ordered a variety of dishes, including several from the kids meal and fries to share. Nothing was bad of course, but most of it was as to be expected for diner-style food. I think for breakfast, it's probably a great place to eat and we'll give that a shot next time for sure. The service was friendly and quick, and we weren't rushed even when they started getting busy with other customers.
The only negative we experienced was our server had difficulty trying to split the check between three parties. We ended up covering it as one finally to be able to get out the door, but it was a minor hassle.
If you're in Port Clinton or visiting the Liberty Aviation Museum, pop into the Tin Goose Diner for a meal and a nice viewpoint of the airstrip. You can find them on Facebook and Twitter as well.
