To Seek And To Save
While listening to an online Bible Study this morning, the speaker tossed out part of a verse and paused….asking the listener to complete it.
Jesus Came To Seek And To Save…… (fill in the rest)
I know I know!!! I thought to myself…. Jesus came to seek and save…the lost! I was so excited that I not only knew the rest of the verse but where it was from in scripture (Luke 19:10).
Wait….hold the presses………. as the speaker continued I had to reach for my Bible. They did not say the same ending to that verse! What? I had never heard it end the way the speaker was using OR the implications of just a different word on the meaning of the entire verse!
The Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost – Luke 19:10
“That which was lost”…. hmmm this means something different from “the lost” ~ I had always been taught that Jesus came to save those that were lost (sinners, those that didn’t know him)… however, Jesus came to save that which WAS LOST... Everything!
OK, so maybe this is just a duh moment for me. But so many other scriptures just seemed to fall into place with the change in my perception.
Once again I am reminded that we need to be careful in the study materials we use and that we are charged to Read, Know and Understand the scripture… not just listen and believe everything we hear!

That sounds very nice. I would have not even known what came next. Glad I do now. Thanks for sharing your bible study today with us.

No, we should definitely not take everything we read at face value—–
