Travel Essentials for Successful Conventions
Every spring, just as our homeschool calendar starts to show open slots our travel schedule begins to fill in with dates for blog and homeschool conventions as well as speaking events.
Just as it is important to make and confirm our travel arrangements, packing takes on a new meaning for my crew.
Our family weekend getaways usually consist of grabbing a change of clothes, our bathing suits and we are out the door. My crew can be packed and loaded in less than an hour when last minute opportunities arise.
Blog Conventions or Speaking Engagements while usually just a weekend trip, are normally more upscale, involve more close contact and certainly require other activities to keep the teens occupied.
So while their packing may not be much different, mine certainly becomes a challenge as I try to remember all the items that I will need to have at my fingertips.
My Get Ready list consists of, Laptop or Tablet, power cord for same, power strip, camera with extra batteries, writing material and pens, first aid kit (for the blisters from all the walking), ear buds, drink mix for water bottle, and snacks.
And while snacks are listed at the end of my list, they are no less important. I get hungry during the sessions! When I am speaking, I need the energy boost to make it through my presentations. And if it happens to be at a food convention, forget it… just looking at all the images makes my tummy start to make noise begging for food.
Our most recent trip was to Dayton, Ohio as a speaker at the WordPress Word Camp. My presentation was to new bloggers that were interested in taking their business beyond the basic level. You are welcome to my slide presentation and can download it on SlideShare for free.
With bags packed and ready to hit the road our first stop was at the corner Speedway for fuel, beverages and snacks. Our Speedway is the most popular place and is always packed with travelers. I am thankful they are always open as they have saved me many a late night when I noticed there was no milk or other items needed for the next morning.
I grabbed a couple of SNICKERS® to satisfy my hunger on the roadtrip. To be honest, I couldn’t decide which SNICKERS® to buy so I got three: SNICKERS® Extreme, Peanut Butter Squares, and SNICKERS® Almond. Actually, I bought two of each because it was going to be a two day event.
My blogger bag is also our snack bag. We keep everything needed for the drive within reach. It sure helps to keep the inside of the vehicle picked up when you have one place for all the snacks and empty wrappers.
During the convention, I was glad I had purchased additional SNICKERS®…I made several new friends by sharing my loot both during the sessions and at our late night gatherings. What a delicious treat!
Simply dice one apple in a cup and add whipped topping and a diced SNICKERS® Extreme for the best late night treat! I love that they are portable and can be made in less than a minute.
Now that we are back home and preparing for the next trip, time to make sure our conference packing list is printed and ready to go.
You are welcome to print a free copy of my conference packing list by clicking below:
