U.S. eBook Sales to Surpass Printed Book Sales in 2017

U.S. eBook Sales to Surpass Printed Book Sales in 2017

By 2017 eBook sales are expected to pass printed book sales! I can see this being true. The last 20 books I have purchased have been 3 to 1 ebooks over printed. I usually but the printed for items for school and ebooks for personal reading.

Does this mean we are reading less? Probably not! Even if book sales remained unchanged in terms of units, the shift to eBooks would lead to a decline in dollar sales, as the average selling price for eBooks is lower than it is for printed books.

Today’s chart from Statista shows estimated consumer book sales in the United States from 2008 through 2017.

Personally, I think it’s sad that there is such a decline in printed books. I actually prefer printed books and refuse to use a reader, even though I have one on my phone. It just seems like there is something lost when we read books on a screen. Maybe I’m old fashioned, I prefer reading an actual newspaper too. 😀 BTW, I’m only 29…
