VeggieTales Beauty and the Beet {Review}
If you have little ones, you probably know about VeggieTales! Their newest film just came out on DVD, and it’s called VeggieTales Beauty and the Beet! It’s their version of the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale and it did not fail to live up to what we know and love from VeggieTales.
This is a great story about a family that gets “stuck” in their travels, and has to trade labor at a rather shabby resort for their room and board.It tells the story about Mirabelle (get it, Belle?) who sings with her family’s band and the rude and “beastly” owner who is a beet. No, really, he’s a beet, since this is a movie from VeggieTales!
Obviously, since Kellie Pickler voices the character of Mirabelle, most of the music has a country sound to it, which was just fine with us since we’re fans. And we got to hear a new silly song with Larry the Cucumber which is always a house favorite!
Personally, I enjoyed the animation and the uplifting theme of the story.
What I loved most about Beauty and the Beet was that it still taught the kids/us a great lesson about unconditional love while presenting it in a very entertaining way that kept their attention. I am sure we’ll be watching this several more times before the weekend arrives, and I’ll be tossing it in my van’s DVD player for when the grand-kids are running errands with me.
About the film:
This brand-new VeggieTales musical premieres Oct. 14 and stars Kellie Pickler (American Idol, Dancing With the Stars), who brings her unmistakable voice to the role of Mirabelle, a sweet-potato singer whose family band is on the brink of superstardom. BEAUTY AND THE BEET blends the irresistible charm of VeggieTales with a heartfelt message about unconditional love. The DVD also includes Mac and Cheese, a giddy new “Silly Songs With Larry” segment in which Larry the Cucumber reveals the surprising and heretofore untold history of his family’s unexpected contributions to Italian cuisine. BEAUTY AND THE BEET is just the start of the fun in store this fall for VeggieTales fans, because the gang will also star in a brand-new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House, which premieres Thanksgiving weekend.
