Ways to Stop Getting Bit While Enjoying Being Outside
Are you a bug magnet? I am! My husband must not be tasty because the biting critters seem to leave him alone. I on the other hand, must have the sweetest meat around because they line up in a hover pattern like the planes over Cincinnati airport at night just waiting for their turn to land and enjoy the scenery. Hopefully you are not in the same boat as I am but here are my top ways to stop getting but while enjoying being outside.
Don’t go outside!
I know that isn’t what you were looking for but I have learned that I am attacked more in the evening hours and just before dawn than during the heat of day.
Dress appropriately for the location and activity.
Wearing shorts while hiking may be cooler on your body temperature but you are exposing far more flesh to the army of biting insects that necessary. Instead wear lighter weight clothing that covers your body as much as possible. As strange as it sounds, you really are cooler when your skin is covered (lightly) and not exposed to the direct sun.
Fire up the Thermacell Bristol Lantern
This is my final and best tip for not getting bit while enjoying being outside! Just a single Thermacell Bristol Lantern will provide hours of bright light and proven protection from mosquitoes, black flies, and other biting insects.
This lantern creates a protective zone of around 15 x 15 square feet. They can be staggered for a larger protected area and I love that they provide protection against mosquitoes, black flies and other flying insects with having to apply oils or lotions on my skin.
So if you want to enjoy the outdoors without being on the menu yourself, make sure you consider a Bristol Lantern.
