When Calls the Heart Season 2 Premiere

The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. “When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a turn of the century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

I first became familiar with this series when I read the book by Janette Oke about a young woman from a rich family who wants to be a teacher and is assigned out to the Canadian west for her first job and all of her adventures. Then there was a movie on the Hallmark Channel by the same name, and then they developed it into a TV series. I’ll be honest, I’ve been a fan from day one. How exciting to see a book I really enjoyed be turned into a movie, then a TV series for me that I never miss.

I like watching the west come alive on the screen in the show. Not in just the set designs, but also in the costumes, the way of life, even how school is taught! Erin Krakow plays the teacher, Elizabeth Thatcher, who moves from a well to do family home to the middle of nowhere, expected not only to teach the children in town but also care for them as most of them have recently lost fathers or brothers in a mine explosion. I’ve enjoyed watching her not only build her confidence as a teacher, but make friends and even start a romance with a Canadian Mountie named Constable Jack Thornton (played by Daniel Lissing).

Another awesome part of the series is it being family friendly. I can watch my weekly does of When Calls the Heart and not worry about ugly words or adult scenes that my kids could pick up on.

So what’s going to happen in the When Calls the Heart Season 2 Premiere? Well…I’ve actually had the awesome privilege of seeing it but I’ve been sworn to secrecy about releasing any details! But I can drop a few hints at least even if I can’t go into detail about them!

• Ms. Thatcher gets an urgent message to return home as soon as she can
• Constable Jack Thornton meets the Thatcher family too (Related to the above? Time will tell)
• Beautiful formal & period dresses
• Movement in the Coal Valley mining disaster court case
• A couple runs into potentially disastrous roadblock to their romance
