Winter Escape to Castaway Bay {Review}
We recently were invited to spend 2 days at Castaway Bay in Sandusky, Ohio, and yet again, it was a huge hit! Between the large hotel rooms, indoor arcade, and oh yeah, the Indoor Waterpark, our winter escape to Castaway Bay was a wonderful getaway from the ice and snow.
The Caribbean meets Sandusky at this resort destination for vacationers. With its tropical theme, guests at Cedar Point’s Castaway Bay feel like they have just landed on an island paradise upon entering this lush indoor waterpark resort. Castaway Bay features 237 hotel rooms and suites including family-oriented units, a 38,000-square-foot indoor waterpark loaded with water activities for all ages, fitness center, 6,000-square-foot state-of-the-art arcade, a craft and child activity center, three restaurants, retail shops, adjacent marina and space for meetings, group events and birthday parties.
Castaway Bay is an amazing place to stay! It's one of those locations that after you check in, you really don't need to leave the property. Not only do you have your lodging, but there's also the indoor waterpark, arcade, several restaurants, areas for kids to craft and create things, and more.
It's really close to Cedar Point (not within walking distance) but just a short trip. You can enjoy both places at once, or relax in the warm tropic atmosphere of the waterpark. This trip, we had several kids 5 and under and their moms. We had plenty of room in our Angelfish room with 2 Queen beds and a pull-out sofa bed. Plus it had a huge closet (which doubled as a toy storage area for the little ones) as well as a nice work desk/counter, fridge, microwave and full bathroom.
We went back and forth from the room to the waterpark and to the arcade depending on what child wanted to do which activity. Honestly, even without the kids, I'd have been happy floating in the hot tub which even has an outdoor access so you can enjoy the 15 degree weather while still remaining in the water!
We also learned about some updates and a new ride coming to Cedar Point this year.
While the park was closed for the winter, the Hotel Breakers has undergone some major renovations, both inside and out!
2015 will also mark the debut of the newly-renovated Hotel Breakers. Located along the mile-long Cedar Point Beach, Hotel Breakers will complete its two-year transformation into the ultimate resort destination. Along with a new exterior, the modernized hotel will have a new entrance portal, classic interior finishes, newly-furnished and remodeled rooms with LCD TV’s, new furniture, bedding and décor, and many other amenities and offerings. Additional enhancements include a new Starbucks and the Surf Lounge bar inside the famous rotunda, widened exterior green space with panoramic views of Lake Erie and an outdoor water play area with zero depth entry and splash features.
I can't wait to see the new rooms and the updated features. We already enjoyed our time we've spent, and now it'll be even better. I'm also happy that the Starbucks is staying, so I can get that morning/evening/anytime coffee fix! Not to mention the pool right along the beach which is great during the summer! The family never runs out of things to do, or drop the dreaded phrase “Mom, I'm bored!” LOL
And for those thrill seekers, you'll be excited to hear about the new floorless rollercoaster, Rougarou!
The ride begins with a climb to the top of the 145-foot-tall first hill, providing amazing views of the Cedar Point skyline. After reaching the apex, the trains will make a 180-degree turn to the right and plummet 137 feet, at a 52-degree angle, to within inches above the water. Thrill-seekers caught in Rougarou’s grasp will then be flipped upside-down by a 119-foot-tall vertical loop, spun around a 103-foot-tall dive loop, whipped around a highly-banked 360-degree turn and then twisted upside-down again by the world’s only inclined loop on a floorless coaster, angled at a wicked 45 degrees. Just when guests think the ride is over, the steel beast will take them through a 360-degree flat spin, tight and twisty turns and a figure-eight finale. Riders must be 54” tall to ride Rougarou.
My blood pressure is already up just reading about the ride!
There is so much to do and see in Sandusky, specifically at the Cedar Point locations! Whether your crew is into roller coasters, swimming in the pool, hanging out in the arcade, trying different restaurants, enjoying the kid play areas, or a combination of everything, this is the place to be! Enjoy your spring, summer, fall or winter escape to Castaway Bay and Cedar Point!

Sure looks like a great place to visit. I live out west though and don’t travel that far.
This looked like you couldn’t anything but a great time— I have never been their, and sure would love to.Thanks so much for this review
