How My Family Saves on Clothes and Jewelry
Out of seven children, I have only two teenage girls left living at home. But I found that whether I’m shopping for clothes for when all my kids were still home or just two teenage girls, I had to find ways to save money on those purchases! Granted, it’s easier now than it used to be, but I thought I’d share with my readers how my family saves on clothes and jewelry.
The first way I try to save money is watching for sales. The easiest way I’ve found is to sign up for our favorite store’s ads to be delivered to my email address. I can find out which store is having an awesome deal on shorts, dresses, socks, whatever we may be looking to buy! These tend to be one email a day so they shouldn’t fill your inbox.
Secondly, we shop clearance racks in our favorite stores! I’m always amazed at the great deals we find marked down and I snag whatever sizes and colors my girls will wear. You may not always find the newest items or all sizes you might need, but it’s a perfect way to buy brand name products without paying the full retail price.
Find out if your favorite retail stores offer credit cards. I don’t mean the standard ones that you can use anywhere, but the ones you can use in store or online. These can offer some great discounts, early sale entry, and other fun perks that non-card holders can’t get for themselves. Even if you pay them off in full (like we do) every month to avoid interest charges, you can still take advantage of the sales and bonuses by being a card-holder!
Finally, the best and most common way my family saves on clothes and jewelry purchases has to be coupons. Whether paper coupons, online, or in store/instant coupons, these are treated like gold in my family! There are so many places to find coupons/codes to save on our purchases, it can be overwhelming when you start to look.
But, this is where an awesome company called Giving Assistant comes to our rescue.
How Giving Assistant Works
Retailers pay us a commission for purchases originated from our website. Typically a percentage of the sale (avg ~5%).
For purchases originated by our members we pay the entire commission as cash back directly and digitally to our members.
For non-member purchases we retain the commission, and make a small donation to Feed America to give one meal.
Members are given the option to automatically donate any % of their cash back to any charity of their choice.
The first thing to do with Giving Assistant is to sign up, and it’s super easy. You can log in using your Facebook account or via an email address. That’s it, no hoops to jump through or personal questions to answer to start saving money!
Once you’re logged in, you can start shopping right away. You’ll see a lot of the merchants offer cash back (which come to you via debit card or paper check) within a matter of days. For those that don’t have a current cash back option, you can still take advantage of their coupons/deals to save money for your family!
One of the best parts is Giving Assistant pays cash back in days, not months like other cash back sites!!
Let me tell you about the two stores that I use most often for my family’s purchases.
1. Kohls – We shop here a lot, I’ll be honest. Whether we need clothes, shoes, purses, kitchenware, or home goods, we normally see what’s available at Kohls. At a quick glance, you can see that right now, Kohls is offering up to 4% cash back on your purchases, plus a bunch of coupon codes! Free shipping is always a favorite, but I love the “save 15% off sitewide” code too!
I will scroll through to see which deals work best for me at the time I’m shopping because sometimes it works out better to save on my total purchase and sometimes a coupon code may be a better deal on a single item. Either way, you click on the “show coupon” button and the window above will open to give you the code you need. Plus, it also confirms Giving Assistant will donate a meal for each coupon code you use!
2. Charming Charlie – Would you be shocked to hear that my teenage daughters love jewelry, purses and accessories? No? So thankfully Charming Charlie is a participating retailer on Giving Assistant! Right now, they are offering up to 6% cash back on my purchases, plus the savings that help my final total.
My current favorite coupon codes? Buy 2 get 1 Free, Free Shipping on orders over $50 and a sale on sun hats!
So now you know how my family saves on clothes and jewelry shopping! Plus you know how easy (and awesome) using Giving Assistant is for not only saving money by using their coupon codes, but earning cash back as well as donating to charity! Everyone wins here.
