Lambert’s Cafe {Review}
While staying at the Pear Tree Inn at Sikeston, MO, it was suggested that we “Try a little place just up the road”…
Boy were we in for a treat! Lambert’s Cafe, is known as The Home of the Throwed Rolls! Yep, you read that right! They say there is a first time for everything and having my food thrown at me was definitely a first for me.
When you walk in the door, you are in the line! We stood there for a couple of minutes looking around and then asked if we needed to put our names on a list or if there was something special going on…nope and nope. The locals in line all said that the line really wasn’t long at all and they we just needed to keep scooting along the bench or keep the gap closed in order to keep our place in line. Hmmmm…
As we got closer to hostess stand, we noticed a large sign that read.. no credit cards! Hubster and I looked at each other and both reached for our wallets. Between us we had $45 so we decided to stay in line and hope that we would be able to eat on what we had in our pockets.
Eat? HA! That is the understatement of the year! First we were served gallon sized coolers with sweet tea.. probably more liquid than I drink in any given day! Then we placed our orders.. that was tough to do as there were so many things that just looked awesome on the menu.
Our server spread out paper towels on the table, sort of like placemats and instructed us to leave them there for the “pass arounds”… and sure enough.. server after server stopped by and dumped a pile of something yummy on the paper towel. And they kept coming LOL…
I ordered the round steak. This is funny because I had just explained to my hubster that I wanted a steak and not something fried. Well, the round steak is battered and deep fried! Don’t get me wrong.. it was AWESOME but we both just had to laugh. It was served with close to 3 pounds of mashed potatoes and gravy, along with greens and carrots.
Hubster ordered the hog jowls because we have some in our freezer that came in our hog that we ordered. Well, hog jowl may be considered the “Prime rib of the hog” but it looks like a monster plate of bacon! I will say that it was delicious and I can’t wait to make ours at home.
Let me say that we ate..and ate…and ate some more as the “pass arounds” kept coming. If you leave this location hungry..IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT!!

Lambert’s Cafe really is an unusual place. How often do we get value for money like that. Thanks for sharing.
