Titus 2:1 Conference Starts

The trip started off rocky…see post on my travel woes getting to the conference.

Followed by a way too early in the morning makeup malfunction, I headed off to find coffee since my room only had decaf and no sweeteners I stopped in the business lounge to grab a cup. What? They have a Starbucks!!! My heart was just a little lighter since I knew I would survive. Do I need to explain that I am a coffee nut? I drink it all day – every day!

To my joy the business lounge not only offered coffee, they had a full hot bar along with the usual continental fare. I do not think I have ever had such wonderful eggs. There was a choice of meats, breads, fruits and juices. This is one of the reasons I try to book on the business level if the hotel has it available. Hilton offers a great breakfast and a even nicer evening cocktail hour. Of course you do not have to drink alcohol to enjoy the food. Children are also welcome which for our family helped with the food expenses when traveling together.

It was during breakfast that my Twitter feed started rocking the conference hashtag #2to1conf. Everyone was facing travel troubles due to weather. Airports were being closed, flights cancelled or delayed all over the country. Several ladies gathered together to pray over the families traveling and the conference that so many hours had gone into during the last few months.

My first thought was for the ladies traveling but it also reminded me why I came myself. Lives of many were going to be touched this weekend. It was truly a blessing to witness how the ladies handled the challenges. First it was the weather. Followed by the hotel reservation system going down. For most of the day they were unable to process check ins or issue keys. If you were on a special list they had printed out before the system went down, they were able to assign you a room but had to enscort you to open the door. Another reason I was thankful for traveling early!

One thing after another cropped up to cause problems , however every time another issue came up you could find a group of ladies banding together in prayer and then coming up with a new plan. There was nothing stronger than the prayers and willing hands of the Titus 2 women. By the scheduled opening of registration all things were a go.

The next three days were filled with seminars, lectures and hands on training in all things Christian Mom Blogger related. I am still processing the information received, trying to implement as many of the tips and suggestions as possible.

The conference ran three different tracks of sessions. Homeschooling and blogging, blogging as a ministry, and blogging as a business. As you can see from the tracks, there were more sessions scheduled than I could attend! Since I am considered a veteran homeschooler because I have been doing it for over twenty years, I went back and forth between the other tracks.

My biggest take away was the reinforcement that if Christ isn’t first in your life, you are spending your time in vain. As a Christian wife, my priorities need to be my relationship with Christ, my relationship with my husband, managing my home and children, followed by any other activities. Oh how the world can draw us away from the path we should follow!

The second take away would have to be the new friendships forged during my trip. It was exciting to put a real face to the ones that I have been working with, and those that I have bumped into in the blogosphere…and of course the new but sure to become close friends like my roommate Lisa of The Pennington Point. We were total strangers sharing a room when we arrived. By the end if the weekend, I knew I had been blessed by a beautiful Christ centered woman. Lisa represents in my mind at least, the pattern for younger women to follow. She was so much more than a blessing to me. She unknowingly called me out on having my priorities out of order and challenged me to tackle issues, although unknown to her, were a struggle to me.

This was my first Christian Homeschooling conference. It will not be my last! I can’t wait until next year for this conference. If you are a blogging mom struggling to get it all done, I recommend this conference. Final leg of my journey home is available here.

What?! I have no idea how I did that! You were such a blessing to ME! You took care of me and made me so comfortable. What a lovely woman you are and I am so glad we got to meet. I hope we get to go again next year! I’m blessed by our new friendship. Lisa~
