Hello Fresh {Review}
Ok, I am sure you are saying the same thing I did when I was asked to review this company. Hello Who? I had not heard of them before so I headed to the ‘net to learn all about them.
HelloFresh is a subscription service that claims to be able to help you save time, save money and eliminate waste. Basically, each week you would receive a box of food delivered to your door with everything that you need to prepare your main meal for your family.
HelloFresh does it all for you – from creating the recipes, to planning the meals, to grocery shopping, and even delivering all of the ingredients right to your door! The weekly box will include three (3) meals for either two (2) or four (4) people. Have a larger family like we do? You would need to order multiple boxes.
The basic Classic Box for three (3) meals to feed two (2) people delivered to Northern Kentucky would run $69.00 a week. If my husband and I ate out three (3) times a week, we would spend at least this if not more!
Other box options include a Veggie Box as well as meal swap options within the Classic. For example, the box we received originally had Steak Fajitas and we swapped it for Risotto.
For our review box, we received the following items and you can see our meals by clicking on each one:
Chile Dusted Shrimp with Corn Relish
We had a blast cooking all the items. Yes, we cooked them all at the same time so we could try them together as a family. The photo direct card that came with each dish was too cool. Not only were the directions written in “NON CHEF” language, they had pictures too! Another awesome treat for newer cooks!
Our thoughts?
~ We really liked the Sage Butternut Squash Risotto! It was awesome! The butternut squash added something so rich and special to the risotto.
~ The Chicken Quinoa Stew had quite a bite to it. Making it again I would back off the red pepper flakes or serve them in a shaker so each person could add what they wanted to their bowl. It also had a strong lemon flavor which I LOVED but the kids.. not so much. I will say that this was so much better the next day when I polished it off as a midmorning snack!
~ Surprisingly the Chile Dusted Shrimp with Corn Relish was nowhere near as spicy as I was expecting it. The corn and red bell peppers countered the chili powder on the shrimp. In fact, this dish would be great serve on French bread or as a dip if you chopped the shrimp up into little pieces.
Overall we enjoyed the box. Each dish, as promoted can be completed in less than 30 minutes. Sweet for those nights when time it tight. I would imagine this would be a great deal for younger professionals that would like to eat at home but don’t have the time, patience or desire to trek to the grocery store on the way home for fresh produce.
Will we be continuing the weekly service? Not at this time. I will however be offering this to new moms, newlyweds and even newly on their own college grads as gifts. You can purchase a gift card or order boxes online directly from HelloFresh.

Hello Fresh probably would not work for my husband and I unless we could order a box every once in a while. I think it would be nice to have a change in our normal recipe routine. The meals you tried sounded delicious and so different from what we normally serve.
